He was employed with Campbell Soup Company for many years and retired from Eklund Broach, in Morenci. During his time in the military, he met his lifelong friends Harry, Max and Lou. George was the first to be drafted out of Hillsdale County to serve during the Korean Conflict. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines at the age of 16, as an oiler, seaman and messman to the captain.
